Trinity Hill, Gimblett Gravels Tempranillo 2020

Flag of New Zealand

In 1993, having recognised the outstanding potential of Hawke’s Bay’s Gimblett Gravels winegrowing region, Trinity Hill became one of the region’s early pioneers, planting grapevines on a barren plot which continues to produce exceptional wines today. One of the bigger names on the NZ wine scene, they now have the license and know-how to experiment and make some really interesting wines. And Gimblett Gravels Tempranillo 2020 is exactly that. Made from a blend of 93% Tempranillo and 7% Touriga Franca, it's a blend of grapes very rarely seen in New Zealand (or indeed outside of Spain/Portugal). It delivers the richness, generosity, and structure one expects from these varieties, with a nose of juicy raspberry, blackberry, liquorice, sweet spices, and dark chocolate. The palate is equally rich with fine tannins and a vibrant acidity, both contributing to a juicy and refreshing finish. Drinking well now, but will continue to develop over the next 10 years.
